About Janet and George – How it started
`Nothing we can do can change the past, but everything we do changes the future.’
Janet + George is an online fashion platform founded by Linda Nuamah in 2012. Linda Nuamah is a Dutch talent acquisition manager, creative director and entrepreneur who has been the director of London based Janet + George since its official registration in September 2016.
Linda founded her first company in 2008, out of the desire to work in the fashion industry. She decided to make use of her talent sourcing experience, and launched an international fashion recruitment agency in Rotterdam. She quickly gained attention from the industry and was contracted to work for TJX Companies in an international talent sourcing position. During this period, she became fascinated with ecommerce and emerging designers. She slowly started to conceptualise the idea for Janet + George. After gaining more experience working for other fashion companies, such as Kering, New Look and Pentland Brands, she decided to dedicate her full attention to her passion for Janet + George, which had grown into the vision of bringing contemporary African designer fashion to the global stage.
Janet + George aims to advance the narrative of the African fashion industry by collaborating with the multifaceted talents behind the billion-dollar industry. We present to the world the elegance and creativity of African fashion which is deeply embedded in the culture and collections of our African designers.
Janet + George showcases curated African designer pieces, that have been exclusively sourced and made on the African continent. Each piece is handmade by African fashion designers and artisans, telling a compelling story about the African heritage. We promote the rich history and culture of the African continent, impacting designers, our customers and the community we serve.
