The people of Ghana use the soap in combination with a washcloth / bathing net called, Sapo (coming soon at JANET + GEORGE), for extra exfoliation. The combination of black soap and Sapo will leave your skin feeling baby soft. After each wash they follow up with a cream or lotion such as Shea Butter.  The black soap comes in a solid and liquid form. Here is how to clean your face, body and hair with African black soap:

Liquid African Black Soap

  • Squeeze the soap into your washcloth (Sapo) or hands
  • Add a bit of water to let it foam by rubbing the Sapo or your hands together
  • Gently scrub your body from head to toe until you feel clean
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water
  • Make sure the soap doesn’t get into your eyes as it might sting a bit
  • Gently dry your skin with a towel or let it air dry
  • Follow up by creaming your body from head to toe with your favourite
    moisturiser. We recommend Shea butter
  • Do this daily until it becomes a routine. Your skin will become

Solid Bar Soap

  • Rub it on your Sapo (washcloth) or between the palms of your hands with a bit of water into a lather
  • Gently scrub your body from head to toe until you feel clean
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water
  • Make sure the soap doesn’t get into your eyes as it might sting a bit
  • Gently dry your skin dry with a towel or let it air dry
  • Follow up by creaming your body from head to toe with your favourite moisturiser. We recommend Shea butter

Hair

  • Squeeze a bit of the liquid African black soap to your hair or rub the bar soap directly on your hair while it is wet
  • Start massaging your head to create a lather.
  • Keep massaging your head until it’s clean
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water
  • Follow up with a conditioner and rinse off
  • Style as usual. However, do avoid tension and heat on your scalp as much as possible
